Being 16 (for the past ten days) opens a lot of new doors for the British teen; I can get hired (and fired), hitched and - now that I'm allowed to buy lottery tickets - unbelievably rich. But 16 in the UK also means another thing - sex. Unlike many other countries, the legal age of consent here is 16 and now that I've made it I figured I should probably discuss the ins and outs of getting down with the sexies. I've just shared one of my many life changing experiences with you, I mean, after that day I was a strictly Stardoll-only dress up game kinda girl.

I'm assuming you all know what pornography is; sexually explicit videos or images for your personal wank bank. If you type 'porn' into Google you wouldn't be short of plastic puffed out chests and circumcised cocks entering hairless asses and spanking and screaming and fisting and crying and all that hot and sexy stuff! Due to the internet, pornography has become widely accessible to an increasingly wide population of people - I mean who else has been 18 for the past few years? It comes as no surprise that the main source of sex ed for the majority of teens nowadays is pornography; or that the most popular type of porn at the moment is gonzo porn, which is essentially hardcore-full-frontal-completely-abusive-supposedly-sexy fucking. We adolescents are at a very impressionable stage of our lives where almost everything we consume will directly affect how we think about ourselves and the world around us. For instance; a 14 year old boy who's sex education only went as far as "don't be thick, wrap up your dick" starts watching porn on a daily basis and for the next few years of his life, sex as he knows it is nothing more than your average Sasha Grey flick.  A 14 year old girl has a look at some porn and sees no hair , no fat, no sex and most importantly, no 'no's. Especially after the ridiculous Fifty Shades of why on earth was that even published Grey hype we are being exposed to a world of BDSM with no safe words, no consent and non-mutual kinks. When it comes to real life sex, away from the computer that is, how safe could it actually be?

I haven't written this as an attempt to stop you from watching porn, but that next time you do, you know that your sex doesn't have to look like that. It would be unrealistic to assume that all 16 year old boys are raging sexual sadists or that all girls grow up to be masochists with dis-satisfactory sex lives. But we can't ignore that porn is influencing real people with real lives when 11 year old girls are constantly shaving their pubes, giving themselves minute cuts and increasing the risk of catching STDs; or when teenage boys react to rejection with violence because every other man they've watched could fuck any girl they wanted. 

The porn industry generates a population of overly aggressive males and submissive living breathing sex dolls. It teaches us that violence and aggression equate to good sex and that sexiness can only be achieved through countless body modifications. What it doesn't teach us is what sex is really like: 

That you don't have to do anything you're not comfortable with,

That the female orgasm actually matters,

And that sex isn't a male birthright.
